Karen Renton will be baking up a storm in February, along with several volunteers, as they raise money for our four-legged friends.

Paws and Claws Animal Rescue (PCAR) is selling cupcakes to the public on Feb. 26. The event coincides with National Cupcake Day, which acts as a fundraiser campaign for dogs, cats, and other animals across the country.

Renton, who serves as the president for PCAR, says the group has been participating in National Cupcake Day for three years.

“All of our ingredients [are] donated,” she said. “Volunteers help bake cupcakes.”

Renton said 15 to 20 people will be helping bake the cupcakes. Last year they created over 900 tasty confections.

People and businesses will be able to order cupcakes from PCAR for delivery. The sweets sell for $20 a dozen. They will also be sold at Pet Valu from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 26.

“We’ve got quite a few orders [so far],” Renton said.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to PCAR. Renton said their main goal is to pay for veterinarian bills.

People who want to order cupcakes can call Renton at 306-621-2113 or contact PCAR at 306-516-7660.
