The City of Yorkton Archives have received a donation of a copy of Donald McKen's Diaries, courtesy of his great-nephew, Donald Cannon of Yorkton.The City of Yorkton Archives have received a donation of a copy of Donald McKen's Diaries, courtesy of his great-nephew, Donald Cannon of Yorkton. Donald McKen was born January 2, 1900, son of Robert and Helen McKen of the Orkney District. He was a farmer and known far and wide as an avid hunter and trapper. He was also a Game Warden for 15 or so years. Donald McKen wrote the diaries from 1936 until 1978. Examples of diary entries are: 1936 - December 15 - "Was at hockey game. Yorkton 3 - Weyburn 1. Weather very mild, not much snow. April 20 - Was in town, rented pasture. Dance at Orkney. I went to the picture show. 1939 - Oct. 14 - Hauling gravel. British battleship, Royal Oak sunk by a U-boat." The book can be viewed and read at the City of Yorkton Archives.
