The ambitious and versatile Laketown Players have begun practices for their annual dinner theatre. February 6-9, 2014, will undoubtedly see this drama group play to sellout audiences at the Saltcoats Community Hall. Laketown Players are delighted to again be presenting an original comedy drama written by Steve Farquharson whose earlier play Peanuts and Crackerjacks left audiences anticipating his next piece of creative writing.

In his preface, the author wrote, "This play is dedicated to all of the "characters" who take time for children and who provide colour and life to our communities. All the characters in this play are fictitious, however"

The drama involves the interplay of a woman who has foster-parented many children, three foster kids, a social worker, and a variety of townspeople who react very differently to having this 'kind of kid' loosed on their safe and comfortable community. A plot to at least delay the shifting on of the kids results in some peculiar hi-jinx and more than one unexpected turn of events.

Audiences will find their assumptions about what is about to happen and what lies in the hearts of various characters may prove very incorrect.

There will be three evening performances. These will follow a social hour and the sort of delicious dinner for which Saltcoats' catering groups have earned an excellent reputation. Sunday's matinee presentation will follow the serving of tasty desserts. There will be a cash bar at each show.

The diverse cast includes several actors who have been part of other Laketown Players presentations and some newcomers to the Saltcoats stage.

Expect to enjoy the talents of Joan Wilson, Martin Phillips, Steve Farquharson, Stephanie Newsham, Scott Hoffort, Jesse Baron, Candice Baron, Liam Baron, Jessica Farquharson, Katelyn Farquharson, Carla McDill, Donnie McDill, Marilyn Herron, Orville Herron, Gidge Trepanier, Lisa Kruger. Gloria Rathgeber and Walter Farquharson are again directing and Elwyn Vermette will head the light and sound department.

Tickets are on sale now and sales have been brisk. Call Phyllis McCallum at 306-744-2990 for tickets. As has been the case in years past, several community organizations and projects will benefit through this major fund-raising event.
