The props have been put away. The sets have been struck. The curtains have been drawn. Another dramafest has come to a close.
The Region Four Drama Festival was held in Yorkton Mar. 22-24. Sacred Heart High School hosted the event, providing their stage and theatre space for the competition.
Schools from Yorkton, Esterhazy, Carlyle, Rocanville, and Norquay participated in the festival. Each school submitted a play which they performed during the week.
The plays covered topics from bullying to romance to classic Grimm Brothers tales.
Sacred Heart’s teams put on “The Arranged Marriage” and “Seesaw,” while Yorkton Regional performed “The Long View.”
Adjudicators judged their work, assigning points for sets, acting, direction, and other factors.
Awards were handed out on Mar. 24 at Sacred Heart. Outstanding participants were honoured for their good spirit, enthusiasm, and craftmanship.
“The Arranged Marriage” secured the runner-up position for best overall play.
“Emotional Baggage,” performed by Esterhazy High School, snagged the top prize for best overall play. They earned the right to take their production to the Saskatchewan Drama Association’s Provincial Festival from May 3-5 in Regina.
