DUBUC - Coffee row holds visitor day

Art and Sylvia Stadel of Canora and daughter, Denise and Mike Polishak, from Yorkton travelled to Prince Albert for the National Youth Softball Championships that were held there a couple weeks ago. They met Art's brother, Jack Stadel of Richmond, BC and his son, Curtis, as well as his daughter, Dawn Stadel, who was the coach of the Under 16 Boys team that was competing for the province of BC.

Dawn's son, Mitchel Armstrong, played on this team. The boys and their parents had six weeks notice to earn $28000 to cover the expenses for travel, rooms and food for everyone to attend the ball tournament. They did this by running concessions at other tournaments and also by doing other odd jobs as a team. One day alone they raised $3200 selling homemade strawberry shortcake ice cream desserts at a ball tournament concession stand.

While they didn't win a medal in Prince Albert, they sure had fun! Everyone enjoyed watching the ball games and loved touching base with family that they don't get to see all that often. Next year, Dawn will be coaching the U14 boys team that another son will be playing with. Art, Sylvia and the Polishaks stayed at a lovely B&B across from Diefenbaker Place that comes highly recommended great food and the most comfortable beds! Curtis, Dawn and Mitchel returned home following the tournament, while Jack accompanied brother, Art, back to Canora to spend several weeks visiting with family and old friends in Saskatchewan.

Joyce Wass from Winnipeg, MB has been visiting with her sister, Gladys Smith. They are planning a trip to Swan River, MB to visit with more family members while she is here. Joyce accompanied Gladys to coffee row on Saturday and Tuesday and enjoyed meeting all the regular gang.

Daphne and Neil Meunier of Estevan are staying at their camper trailer on the former insurance agent lot on Bernier Street for the last hurrah of summer. They enjoyed visiting with both family members and friends while camping. Despite the lovely fall weather, they packed up their trailer and put it away for the winter when the weekend was over.

Brent and Chandra Hedstrom were home from Regina for the weekend. As well as visiting with their families, they took in her Grandpa's 90th birthday celebrations in Esterhazy.

Elvira (nee Norman) Lysechko and Bob Martin both of Melville were back in town again this past week. They were accompanied by her sister, Gwen (Norman) and hubby, Eddy Lovas, from Nanaimo, BC. They toured around the area visiting some of their old haunting grounds and the village cemetery. They spent some time visiting at the home of Ron and Melba McAlpine, looking at some old snapshots and reminiscing about the good old days. An unexpected pleasure was meeting with up with their cousin, Daphne (Groseth), hubby, Neil Meunier, and her son, Brent Hedstrom at coffee row. Pictures were taken to record the occasion.

It was visitors day at Saturday Coffee Row when there were 8 guests and 19 regulars in attendance to enjoy the camaraderie. They were: Joyce Wass, Elvira Lysechko, Bob Martin, Gwen and Eddy Lovas, Daphne and Neil Meunier, Brent Hedstrom. A big thank-you goes to Daphne who brought home-made brownies for everyone to enjoy with their cup of coffee.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Art Stadel and daughter, Brenda Topliss, both of Canora, that celebrated with extended Topliss and Stadel family members and a Chinese food supper last Sunday. Their birthdays are only a day apart and this year was a special decade birthday for Brenda so it was extra special! Hope you both have a great year!

Get well wishes to Jim Talbot who recently had cataract surgery. Hope you're looking good real soon.

Sandra Forsberg of Saskatoon is presently visiting with her mom, Mary Forsberg, at the Prairie Manor for a week. She accompanied her mom to the potluck supper where she enjoyed renewing acquaintances with those in attendance.
