Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is celebrating its diamond anniversary, delivering 75 years of conservation excellence in Canada. The entire 2013 year marks an important milestone in DUC's rich history and provides momentum for an even brighter future for wetland conservation. Throughout the year, DUC will hold prestigious Signature Galas in major cities across Canada, including one in downtown Regina.
The DUC 75th Anniversary Diamond Signature Event takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at the Casino Regina. Join us for an incredible evening of camaraderie, fine dining, and the enjoyment of bidding on unique and exclusive merchandise at our live and silent auctions. This 75th anniversary event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a Gala dinner at 7:00 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be put towards conserving wetlands like marshes and ponds in Saskatchewan and across Canada.
"I am very proud and honoured to call the province of Saskatchewan my home. We are exceedingly fortunate to have an abundance of spectacular natural areas, parklands, and a wide array of wildlife," says Dr. James McHattie, Gala Event Chairperson. "We continue to loose valuable wetlands at an alarming rate, and I am very concerned about the state of our environment and our wetlands that are crucial to waterfowl, wildlife, the environment, and all communities across Canada. The good news is that we have an organization like DUC that is taking action and has made an enormous difference in conserving and restoring natural areas that are so important, not only to me and my family, but to future generations as well. I am proud of the accomplishments that DUC has achieved, and am very privileged to be able to participate and support DUC on delivering 75 years of conservation excellence. Congratulations Ducks Unlimited Canada, and here's to another 75 years of conservation success!"
Despite the fact that wetlands are one of the most biologically-diverse ecosystems on the planet - second only to rainforests - Saskatchewan's wetlands are one of the most threatened landscapes in the country. We lose 28 acres of wetlands per day in Saskatchewan. In some areas of the province, over 90% of these wetlands have already been lost or severely degraded.
