Early Yorkton cultural event

St. Patrick's Day in Yorkton, March 17, 1904. The Dunlop Hall (Dunlop Block) was filled beyond capacity for a supper, concert and dance. The very successful event was organized by The Committee of Irishmen and Irish Canadians.

St. Patrick's Day in Yorkton, March 17, 1904. The Dunlop Hall (Dunlop Block) was filled beyond capacity for a supper, concert and dance. The very successful event was organized by The Committee of Irishmen and Irish Canadians. Not only Yorkton folks attended but many from the rural area and villages around the town. Dr. T.A. Patrick, MLA, presided over the festivities. Performers were: Piano solo, Miss Wellwood; Song, Mr. Will Moore; Song, Mr. J. A.Magee; Cornet solo, Mr. Pierce; Comic song, Mr. Frank Barber; Mandolin solo, Mr. Percy Furby; Song, Miss Rodgers; Recitation, Mr. Richardson; Comic song, Mr. Barber; Piano solo, Prof. De Cathcart; Song, Mr. Larmour; Picolo solo, Mr. Charles Magrath; Song, Miss Cumberland; Cornet solo, Mr. Pierce; Song, Mr. Barrow. (Source: The Yorkton Enterprise) The celebrations were held in the new block built by William David Dunlop in 1903. Dunlop had come West from Ontario in 1888, ranched in the Good Spirit district and moved to Yorkton. (The photo shown here of the Dunlop Block is one taken years later. )
