Residents in and around Yorkton flooded St. Mary’s Cultural Centre Saturday afternoon in order to purchase traditional Ukrainian foods for Easter including Paska, Babka and Pyrih. All the food purchased goes towards St. Mary’s UCWLC, the church, charitable community needs and an orphanage in Ukraine. Door prizes and raffle tickets were also on sale for further fundraising. Tremendous hours of volunteer work and preparation are put into this event every year by aging women of the culture. St. Mary’s is hoping to see a peaked interest by their younger demographic to learn the traditional baking and help keep their culture alive in the community so these kinds of events continue to bring people together.
