Saskatchewan had a 14.6 per cent drop in Employment Insurance claims in June 2012 when compared with last June which was the largest percentage drop among Canadian provinces (seasonally adjusted). There were 910 fewer claims in the province during this period.
"Over the past year the Saskatchewan economy has continued to improve, creating a larger pool of job opportunities for workers," Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. "The drop of more than 900 people off EI benefits is a substantial decrease, and speaks directly to the fact that the jobs are out there in a wide-variety of skills."
On an unadjusted basis, in Regina, the number of regular EI beneficiaries decreased by 19.8 per cent and in Saskatoon, the number of regular EI beneficiaries decreased by 12.0 per cent.
"With more people able to connect with employment opportunities it ultimately means a better quality of life for individuals and families, and that is something this government will continue to strive for in the future," Boyd said.
