Public school supporters in Yorkton and two rural subdivisions have a decision to make.
Good Spirit School Division (GSSD) announced last week it had six candidates for three school board seats in Yorkton (Subdivisions 8, 9 and 10), three candidates for one spot in Subdivision 3 and two candidates for one chair in Subdivision 2.
In Yorkton, all three positions are elected at large. The six candidates vying for the spots are David Deswiage, Gordon Gendur, Richard Haacke, Lenore Pinder, Bonnie Rushowick and Raymond Sass. Pinder, Rushowick and Sass are the current members. Sass is the current chair.
Subdivision 2 comprises the incorporated area of the Villages of Endeavour, Hyas and Stenen, the Towns of Preeceville and Sturgis, and associated rural areas. Chris Balyski and Brad Secundiak will face off to represent this area. Balyski is the incumbent.
Subdivision 3 encompasses the incorporated area of the Villages of Buchanan, Invermay and Rama, the Town of Canora and associated rural areas. The candidates for this seat are Christine Eiteneier, Shannon Leson and Carla Pelechaty. Pelechaty is the current representative.
The rest of the board was elected by acclamation. All of the remaining members are the current representatives except Florence Stachura who replaces Joelann Pister for Subdivision 4 and Gilda Dokuchie who fills the previously vacant Subdivision 11 chair.
Bryan Cottenie (current vice-chair) - Subdivision 1, Arran, Pelly, Togo, Kamsack and Norquay.
Florence Stachura - Subdivision 4, Calder, Ebenezer, MacNutt, Rhein, Theodore and Springside.
Lois Smandych - Subdivision 5, Atwater, Bangor, Waldron, Bredenbury, Churchbridge, Langenburg and Saltcoats.
Bob Simpson - Subdivsion 6, Duff, Goodeve, Grayson, Killaly and Melville.
D.J. Cairns - Subdivision 7, Bird's Point, Gerald, Stockholm, Tantallon, Westend, Yarbo and Esterhazy.
