The Saskatchewan Abilities Council (SAC) last week honoured local employers that have provided work experience and job opportunities to people with disabilities.
During a luncheon at Gallagher Centre Claire Poole, acting vocational senior supervisor for SAC's Partners in Employment program praised participants.
"Together we are building communities that are inclusive and accepting of all of our citizens," she said.
Since 1997, Partners in Employment has been matching companies with employees with disabilities such as injuries, learning disabilities, mental health issues and mobility challenges.
After arranging job placements, the organization provides on-site training support and ongoing follow-up to help develop sustainability of the employment arrangement.
Poole said SAC's clients tend to be hardworking, dedicated and have lower rates of absenteeism because they do not take their jobs for granted.
In opening comments, Mayor Bob Maloney called the program "critical" particularly during the boom times Saskatchewan is currently experiencing.
