Heritage Day, proclaimed annually in February throughout the nation by Heritage Canada The National Trust, celebrates the architectural heritage and historic places of Canada. The WDM, City of Yorkton Archives and Municipal Heritage Sub-Committee, and members of the Yorkton Chapter of the Saskatchewan Genealogy Society are pleased to again work together to celebrate the event on Sun., Feb. 16 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For 2014, Heritage Canada The National Trust has chosen "Have Fun With Heritage: Historic Places Made for Play" as its theme. Their objective is to recognize the historical value of places designed for play that have brought so much enjoyment to so many. Guest speakers and displays will highlight various locations in and around Yorkton that have made treasured memories in our hearts and our communities. In addition, members of the Yorkton Chapter of the Saskatchewan Genealogy Society will be sharing information on tracing family histories and answering questions relating to genealogical research. Regular admission applies for the event which includes entrance to the galleries, display area and refreshments. Everyone is welcome to celebrate Heritage Day at the Western Development Museum on Sun., Feb. 16, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Western Development Museum - Yorkton, Highway 16A West.

Now showing at community pARTners gallery: Greetings from the Land of Living Skies! is a group exhibition comprised of four Saskatchewan artists: Sandra Knoss, Cathy Terepocki, Tina Hudson & Donn Morton. The work in this exhibition presents interpretations of Saskatchewan imagery and identity. Sandra Knoss' paintings transform the Saskatchewan landscape in an energetic and colourful manner. The ceramic work of Cathy Terepocki has created cups, plates and other small souvenir like objects. Tina Hudson and Donn Morton both hail from the community of Weyburn, SK. Hudson uses photography to examine the deserted buildings that dot the Saskatchewan landscape. Morton creates small copper objects that mimic their larger counterparts so often found in the Saskatchewan experience. Open during regular hours at Yorkton Public Library until Feb. 23.
