A 39-year-old Yorkton man has been charged under the Explosives Act and Criminal Code after Police found a large quantity of explosives and other stolen property at the man’s residence.

James Patrick Loder faces charges of possession of unmarked explosives contrary to the Explosives Act and possession of explosive substances and possession of stolen property under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code.

The Yorkton municipal RCMP became aware of the possible presence of explosives at Loder’s residence following a complaint that the man had made threats to his former employer and to use explosives to harm others, a press release stated.

Loder was arrested Aug. 25.

Investigators obtained a search warrant and discovered the contraband materials. The provincial Explosives Disposal Unit removed the explosives from the premises.

Loder was released on a police recognizance  with statutory conditions plus a ban on possessing explosives.

He was not charged with uttering threats because further investigation revealed no evidence of a specific threat issued to a particular person or group, Staff Sgt. Greg Nichol explained.

Loder is scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court October 5.
