The new Yorkton Hyundai Room was officially opened Monday at Jowsey House in the city.
The room was made possible through efforts of the Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer program, thanks to funding from Yorkton Hyundai.
Yorkton Hyundai, in conjunction with Whitewood Dodge and Moosomin Dodge made a donation of $15,000 towards the Close Cuts Local Cancer Initiatives Program earlier this summer. The program aims to enhance the lives of local cancer patients.
The money was raised through a donation on car sales, a car show and barbecues.
At the time of the cheque presentation Leone Ottenbreit said the money would go to completing a family room at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre as part of the palliative care initiative. The family room will be located between the two palliative care rooms as a place for families to find a quiet spot.
The room which opened Monday includes a fridge, coffeemaker, television and comfortable chairs and is a place for families to find some quiet alone time.
“It’s a place to relax and be on their own,” said Ottenbreit. “… It’s a more home like experience.”
The room was termed “very important for families going through this journey,” by Diana Hornung, Health Services Manager with the Sunrise Health Region.
Ottenbreit said while the room is an opportunity for families to have some time to themselves they also remain close by for those in palliative care.
Ron Kaban, owner of Yorkton Hyundai said he was happy to be part of the effort to create the room, telling Greg and Leone Ottenbreit they should “be very proud of what you’ve done.” The room was termed “very important for families going through this journey,” by Diana Hornung, Health Services Manager with the Sunrise Health Region.
