Mail is scheduled to begin flowing again this week with the federal government's passage of legislation ending the Canada Post lockout and forcing postal workers back to the job on Monday.
Residents and businesses across the country should have begun receiving their backlogged mail on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"With unprocessed mail in the system and accumulated mail received from other countries that has not yet entered our system, it will take some time to stabilize our operations and to return to our normal delivery standards," read a Canada Post notice released on Sunday.
Canadian Union of Postal Workers spokespeople called the back-to-work bill "unjust and punitive," arguing that their rotating strikes during the first two weeks of June were far less disruptive to mail delivery in the country than Canada Post's universal lockout of CUPW members.
The two sides now face a binding arbitration process to settle their dispute on starting wages, sick leave, and other issues.
Mail service in Canada has been shut down since the lockout began on June 14.
