The Yorkton Film Festival is proud to announce that it is now accepting entries for the 2016 Yorkton Film Festival. 2016 marks the festival’s 69th year of celebrating the best in Canadian short film. “We’re very excited to be starting another year of the Yorkton Film Festival,” said Executive Director Randy Goulden. “We’re looking forward to the entries this year, and we expect to have another great crop of Canadian films competing for the Golden Sheaf Awards.”

The festival also announced the addition of a new category in this year’s festival: Short Subject – Non-Fiction. “As we do every year, we sat down with our Jury Committee and received feedback on the current award categories.” Said Goulden. “And one of the clear things that was mentioned was the need to create a short subject category that dealt with non-fiction films. So we’re very pleased to be taking that recommendation from the jury and putting it into practice for this year’s festival.”

The biggest announcement, however, for this year’s festival is the waiving of Student Production entry fees from October 1st until December 18th. “This was another strong recommendation that came out of our conversation with our jury committee.” Goulden said. “We’ve been fortunate to have jury members who are professors of film, and they made a very clear and reasonable case that this was the right step to take for students who are wishing to submit to the festival.”

For all other categories, entry fees are set at Super Early Bird pricing from October 1st to November 20th. Regular submission rates for all categories come into effect on December 18th until close of submissions on January 31st.
