The Yorkton Film Festival wants to hang banners in the city to commemorate its 65 years.
"As you are aware The Yorkton Film Festival is celebrating 65 years of Film in 2012. We are very proud of The City of Yorkton for being the host of this event for 65 consecutive years," YFF Director Brenda Pries.
"The Yorkton Film Festival is one of the longest running Festivals in North America and just like the City of Yorkton's motto "Where Good Things Happen" I would say this is one of those things.
"To recognize the YFF, we would like to ask the City of Yorkton for permission to hang banners on approximately 30 lamp standards on Broadway Street from Myrtle Avenue to 8th Avenue."
The size of the banners will be approximately 39" X 60".
However, Yorkton Council wasn't prepared to approve the request until City Administration has an opportunity to create a policy on such banner placements.
Councillor Richard Okrainec started the questions by wanting to know who would hang the banners, and what those costs would be.
Acting City Manager Darcy McLeod said the City's Department of Public Works would need to do the work, adding he did not know the costs associated with that work.
Coun. Ross Fisher said he liked the YFF plan, but wanted a policy in place.
"I think this is a good idea," he said, adding he wanted to send it back to City Administration with a view to creating a policy. " We need to have a policy in place."
