The Yorkton Film Festival (YFF) is pleased to announce it will be screening on Sunday, September 30 at the Godfrey Dean Cultural Centre from 1:00 pm; To Make A Farm.
To Make a Farm won three awards, including Best of Festival and the Ruth Shaw Best of Saskatchewan honours, at the Golden Sheaf Awards which concluded the 2012 Yorkton Film Festival May 26. It was also named best Documentary Nature/Environment.
It follows the lives of five young people with no farming backgrounds who decide to become farmers. Facing daily challenges and overwhelming obstacles as they work their first seasons on the land, the joys and disappointments of bringing life from the earth become a quiet manifesto for social change.
Named one of the ten most popular Canadian films at the Vancouver International Film Festival, To Make A Farm asks: what might the future of local food and farming look like? VIFF called To Make A Farm "exceptionally hopeful, giving us a close-range view of humanity along with a detailed portrayal of the nuts and bolts of agriculture."
It was directed by Steven Suderman, and produced by Steve Suderman and Robin Schlaht, edited by Jackie Dzuba.
The afternoon also features First Nations chalk drawings by Dr. Brass School.
The day will mark the third annual provincial Culture Days, and the Yorkton Film Festival's third year as a participant. Culture Days is a nation-wide event, taking place from September 30 to October 2. Culture Days is designed to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.
