On March 24, 2012 at approximately 6:30 am, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP and the Canora Fire Department responded to a fire which occurred at the Coastal Poultry Farm west of Canora, Saskatchewan.
There was significant loss including one barn containing approximately 20,000 chicks. No human injuries resulted from the blaze. Coastal Poultry Farm produces poultry for distribution throughout the province.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined but it does not appear suspicious at this time.
On March 22, 2012, the Yorkton Municipal RCMP were advised of a suspicious package that arrived at the bus depot in Yorkton. The RCMP confirmed the package contained the controlled substance methadone, a highly abused and potentially fatal substance only available by a doctor's prescription.
RCMP made an arrest when a woman came to pick up the package. A subsequent search warrant was done on her residence that uncovered further evidence of the drug as well as pepper spray, a prohibited weapon.
Thirty-year-old Raven Genaille has been charged with the following offences: Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
Genaille has been released from police custody to appear in Yorkton Court on May 14, 2012.
