Fire Prevention Week is under way with this year's theme of "Have Two Ways Out."

Yorkton Fire Protective Services participates in the national event annually with various fire awareness activities.

This year events include a barbecue at Canadian Tire from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and a mock emergency drill at Richardson International at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

And, of course, it would not be Fire Prevention Week in Yorkton, without the departments perennial Pancake Breakfast and Open House.

The popular event is not only an opportunity to grab a free meal, but kids of all ages can tour the state-of-the-art fire house, climb on the trucks, try on equipment and generally learn about what firefighters do and how to reduce the risk of being a victim of fire.

The fire department maintains a webpage of handy tips for preventing fires and what to do in event of an emergency www.yorkton.ca/dept/fire.

City residents are also reminded that Yorkton firefighters are available to conduct personal home visitations Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. during which they will go over a safety checklist with homeowners.

To book an appointment call 306.786.1795 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
