Yorkton's Fire Protection Services will be getting a new Command Vehicle a year ahead of schedule.
As part of the research for the 2014 Capital budget Fire Protective Services was looking for a new Command vehicle which would be researched and purchased with the assistance of the Public Works Fleet Operations Manager, detailed a report circulated to the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
The Fleet Manager contacted and researched all of the local dealerships and several trucks were identified that meet the requirements of Fire Protective Services. However there is a 2013 Ford F150 4x4 crew cab truck that currently has considerable rebates on it. The cost of this truck is $48,349.40, with the fleet and all other applicable discounts, the cost will be $33,385.00 plus $20.00 tire tax, $100.00 A/C tax, and PST. This brings the total cost of the vehicle to approximately $35,180; this is a savings of $15,713 from the original cost of the vehicle. Of the entire vehicles that were researched none of them offered this amount of savings, explained Fire Chief Dean Clark.
"The Director of Finance has confirmed that there is enough money in Fire Protective Services Equipment Reserve to cover the initial purchase price of the vehicle and also to outfit the vehicle for the Fire Service. Further saving would be incurred by having Public Works outfit most of the vehicle. It is estimated that the total cost of this project would be $50,000 as compared to $67,500," he said.
The recommendation, unanimously supported by Council allows for "Administration to purchase a 2013 Ford F150 4x4 crew cab truck mentioned in the report out of its Capital Reserve account and that it is outfitted for service by Public Works Department, providing that the rebates, discounts, and dealer concessions mentioned in this report are still in effect."
