Parkland College’s annual graduation ceremony this June will include another major milestone. A group of students will collect their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees at the celebration, becoming the first class to do so at Parkland College.
In 2014, the College entered into a partnership to deliver the University of Saskatchewan’s BSN program in Yorkton. Several students who were enrolled at the time in their pre-professional first year of classes are now poised to graduate and begin their careers as nurses in Sunrise Health Region and elsewhere.
This milestone comes on the heels of one reached in 2016, when Parkland College presented teaching degrees for the first time. A group of students graduated last year with a Bachelor of Indigenous Education from First Nations University of Canada.
Parkland College has also offered the Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Regina for many years.
“These full degree options are valuable for students who don’t want to move away to get their education,” said Parkland College President Dwayne Reeve. “We are excited to help them build their skills and knowledge and make an impact in the community.”
Apart from these full degree options, students can take their first year of classes at Parkland College for almost any degree offered in Saskatchewan. Many students who choose to complete their first year at the College are able to more easily transition from high school to university-level studies, while avoiding relocation costs and higher living expenses.
