When Treyton Roussin has his first haircut it will be a memorable one, at least when he's old enough to be told about it.

Treyton was born April 16 last year, and has yet to have his locks trimmed. The reason, his parents Erin Nelson and Tim Roussin made the decision early on that their son's first haircut would be as a Close Cuts for a Cure fundraiser.

"We were still in the hospital," said Roussin in regards to when the idea was first discussed.

Erin Nelson said at that point it was basically a case of "joking around" but the idea quickly grew to one they decided to follow-up on.

"I finally said 'ah let's do it'. It will be an awesome first haircut," she said.

Nelson said the decision was actually rather easy to come too.

"I think Close Cuts for a Cure is an amazing cause," she said.

Nelson said she can't believe how the Ottenbreits have been able to turn the tragedy of losing a child to cancer "into a worthwhile event.

"I can't believe how strong Greg and Leone are for that.

While Nelson said no one close in her family has had cancer, she recognizes its effect.

"Cancer is so widespread it affects everybody," she said.

With such respect for the cause Nelson said it will be a wonderful "first cut for Treyton," in support of a great cause.
Treyton's father said it is something rather unique for the son to do.

"Not too many one-year-olds have that on their resume," he said with a smile.

And when Treyton's locks do begin to fall away one in particular has his mother's eye to keep.
"I want that piece for his baby book," said Nelson.

"It's at least six, or seven inches long," added Roussin.

To help Treyton get through the first cut amid the excitement and crowd of Close Cuts, his father will also have his haircut, "just so he doesn't get scared," said Nelson.

As for raising funds Nelson said things are going well with still nearly a month to go before the May 28 cut.
"So many people think it's such a great idea," she said.
