There is a new naming sponsor for one of Yorkton's recreational facilities.

Dow AgroSciences and the City of Yorkton recently signed an agreement that sees the Flexihall in the Gallagher Centre renamed Nexera Flexihall.

In making the announcement at a press conference at the facility last Tuesday Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney said the naming deal is for five years and will see the Gallagher Centre receive $60,000 in new funding.

Maloney said the revenue "stays with the centre" to be used for projects within the Gallagher Centre.

Nexera is a canola variety and Maloney said in that regard local involvement is a natural given recent developments within the city.

"We all know what a huge industry canola is in the province," adding that is reflected locally with the recent development of two canola crushing facilities.

Mark Woloshyn, Nexera Canola Brand Leader for Dow AgroScience said the canola crushing plants have certainly impacted Nexera sales locally, saying that the plants "contributed to our success."

With Richardson already into a plant expansion, and LDM telling Woloshyn at a meeting while in Yorkton they have plans to crush "up to a million tonnes of canola," Nexera seed sales are strong to meet farmer demand.

"We chose to contribute to the community centre in Yorkton because it's central to where many of our Nexera canola acres are grown and, of course, where Nexera canola is crushed," said Woloshyn.
