A former Yorkton provincial election candidate has been charged with fraud.
Chad Blenkin, who ran in the 2011 provincial election on the NDP ticket, had a first court appearance May 2 in Yorkton Provincial Court on four charges.
He is charged with: one count of fraud over $5,000, one count of fraud under $5,000, one count of trafficking in property obtained by crime and one count of laundering the proceeds of crime.
At the request of the defence, the case has been adjourned until May 30 to be spoken to.
No details have been released on what allegedly occurred beyond the official charges.
At the time of the 2011 election, Blenkin was a management consultant in Yorkton and most recently worked in marketing for GX94 and Fox FM.
According to his candidate profile he has a history of community involvement with Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, the Regina Food Bank and the Yorkton Film Festival.
Fraud over $5,000 carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
