A former Yorkton RCMP cellblock guard is facing charges of drug trafficking and breach of trust.
Two court documents obtained by Yorkton This Week allege that between September 1 and November 18, 2016, Bonny Maddaford (45) sold cocaine and marijuana to prisoners in custody in Yorkton.
She is also accused of providing tobacco and money to prisoners contrary to breach of trust provisions in the Criminal Code.
Maddaford faces a total of five charges including one count of trafficking cocaine, one count of trafficking marijuana, one count of possession of marijuana and two counts of breach of trust.
The Crown is proceeding by indictment on all counts.
Cocaine trafficking is taken very seriously by the courts generally carrying prison terms of 18 months to four years even for a first offence depending on mitigating and aggravating circumstances. Breach of trust is both an aggravating circumstance and carries its own maximum penalty of five years in prison.
On February 13, Yorkton defence attorney Thomas Campbell appeared for Maddaford in Yorkton Provincial Court. He did not enter a plea, but informed the Court the matter would not be going to trial.
He requested and was granted an adjournment until March 13.
