A former Yorkton RCMP jail guard has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and breach of trust and will be going to prison although it has not been revealed for how long.
Bonnie Maddaford, 45, appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court March March 10 where defence attorney Thomas Campbell entered guilty pleas to one count each of trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana and one count of breach of trust.
Shane Wagner, representing the federal Crown, told the court one other drug possession charge and two additional breach of trust charges would be stayed upon completion of sentencing.
Between September 1 and November 18, when Maddaford was a guard at the RCMP cell block in Yorkton, she was alleged to have sold cocaine and marijuana to prisoners. No other details to the crimes were offered in court.
Campbell told the court a joint submission for significant prison time would be offered. He requested sentencing be put off to allow his client time to put her affairs in order and spend Easter with her family.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 24. Typical sentences for first-time cocaine trafficking range from 18 months to four years. Breach of trust carries maximum prison time of five years and is an aggravating factor.
