Kelsie Hendry competed at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in the pole vault event. Her message came to the St. Mary's School of 250 students when she spoke about her dreams and her ambition to always strive and believe in herself. Kelsie told the children that it is important to have a dream or a passion and give yourself wholly toward reaching and attaining your goals. She told the students that gymnastics was her first sport and after the age of 18, she began her pole vaulting career in sports. She is the most proud of her ability to qualify as a member of the Canadian team for the 2008 Olympics and to represent her country. But she also left Beijing with medals for Canada, and she presently holds the Canadian women's record of 4.55 meters in the sport.

Through her commitment to promote community sports and participation, she inspired students with some great messages: "Never compare yourself to others", "Go beyond the expectations of your trainers and coaches", "Treat your body with respect by eating right and resting", "Balance your time between work and leisure", "Hold the people closest to you in high regard". These are some foundational ideals that everyone needs to hear again and again. Kelsie took time to share her experiences and wisdom and help inspire another future generation of hopeful athletes, artists, musicians, thinkers and doers.

Thank you to the Royal Bank for sponsoring Kelsie's enthusiastic message and visit.
