Nearly a year-and-a-half after Trent Senger suddenly resigned as principal of Sacred Heart High School under questionable circumstances and amid rumours of misconduct, the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board is taking disciplinary action against him.

Senger is charged with six counts of professional misconduct including falsifying a student’s transcript; making sexist, offensive, profane, belittling, humiliating and hurtful comments to or about staff, teachers, supervisors, students and parents; failing to verify students’ eligibility for graduation; and failing to hold sufficient fire drills contrary to provincial and national fire safety regulations.

The specific allegations are detailed in a Notice of Hearing of Formal Complaint dated February 15 that appeared on the SPTRB website last week announcing a hearing date of March 24 in Regina.

According to the document, the regulatory agency received two formal complaints, which were reviewed by the Professional Conduct Committee.

That committee deemed the allegations worthy of a Discipline Committee hearing.

The notice does not indicate who made the formal complaints, but legislation requires school divisions to report to the SPTRB on matters of this nature. Jason Vogelsang, SPTRB assistant registrar confirmed that one of the complaints was indeed an employer’s notice.

In November 2015, Christ the Teacher Catholic Schools officials refused to comment on the unusual circumstances issuing the following statement from then-board chair Lisa Rathgeber following repeated inquiries by Yorkton This Week:

“As I am sure you can appreciate that to respect privacy, we would not share employee information,” Rathgeber wrote. “I can, however, confirm that Mr. Trent Senger has decided to step down from his assignment at Sacred heart High School. Therefore, Christ the Teacher School Division is pleased to announce that Ms. Rachel Sterzuk has been appointed to Principal. We wish Ms. Sterzuk every success and blessing in her new role. The students, staff and Board thank Mr. Senger for his commitment to the school over the past 14 years.”

Attempts to obtain a comment from the school division administration  and/or board of education were not immediately successful.
