Two youths and two adults have been arrested in relation to an attempted armed robbery at the Saltcoats Cornerstone Credit Union in early January.
It was the two male youths who entered the bank on January 7 in the early afternoon brandishing a weapon and demanded money. Before they had completed the robbery they fled. In the ensuing manhunt, the Saltcoats school was locked down as a precaution.
On February 11, police caught up with one of the suspects, who cannot be named because he is under the age of 18. He was charged with armed robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
On the 11th the RCMP also arrested Brayden McDermott and Colby Stachura for armed robbery as accessories after the fact. Stachura is scheduled for sentencing April 19. McDermott is scheduled to appear in court today.
A fourth suspect, the second youth involved in the actual holdup was taken into custody February 16. He is also charged with armed robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. In addition he faces six counts of break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime and two charges of failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking.
Both youths remain in custody.
