The close-up photo of gargoyles on the old Hudson's Bay building at #19 Broadway Street East. In olden times, elaborate décor lined the edge of roofs of buildings, hiding a drainage system to remove rainwater from the roof. The open mouth of gargoyles were the spouts of this system, and the whole system a fore-runner of modern day eaves troughs. In the case of the Hudson's Bay building, the gargoyles only function as decorations.
