Yorkton’s Lori Glauser will be among the recognized with a Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan this year.
A somewhat reluctant recipient, Glauser took the opportunity to acknowledge all of the exemplary volunteers in Saskatchewan.
“It is very humbling,” she said. “I feel that there are so many more people in this province that could probably have received this award than me because there are a lot of people out there who have been doing this for a long time, but I really appreciate it.”
In a press release, the awards committee described Glauser as a dedicated volunteer.
“A strong advocate of the Saskatchewan arts community, Lori Glauser volunteers her time and talent to develop and grow various arts and culture organizations and projects both provincially and locally. Additionally, she works to develop and enhance her community.”
Her accomplishments include: Past Chair and Board of Directors, Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils; Past Chair and Board of Directors, Yorkton Arts Council; Past Chair and Board of Directors, Godfrey Dean Art Gallery; Committee Chair, Sunflower Fine Art Craft Market; and Member and Volunteer, City of Yorkton, Community Development Parks and Recreation Committee.
Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield will present medals to the ten 2017 recipients at a ceremony in Regina April 24, part of National Volunteer Week (April 23 to 29).
“These recipients of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal exemplify the very best of Canadian qualities, including generosity, compassion and service,” Solomon Schofield said. “I congratulate each of them on this well-deserved honour, and I thank them for their enormous contributions to the people and communities of Saskatchewan.”
In the press release, Jay Teneycke lauded the volunteer tradition in the province.
“Saskatchewan has a long and proud history of volunteerism with more than 8,000 community-based organizations active in the province today,” he wrote. “The spirit of helping one’s neighbour, which helped build this province, continues to shine in this special anniversary year. In four Statistics Canada surveys between 2004 and 2013, Saskatchewan led the country in volunteerism.”
