The Yorkton Film Festival has announced the winners of the 2020 Golden Sheaf Awards.
The Awards were handed out on Thursday, June 18 at the virtual Golden Sheaf Awards ceremony.
“We had an absolutely wonderful collection of films this year, and we’re so excited that we’re able to recognize the work that is being done by Canadian content creators through these awards,” said YFF Executive Director Randy Goulden in a release.
“Our awards have a great national reputation, and for many filmmakers a Golden Sheaf is often the first award they might have won, which certainly helps them in building future projects and gaining recognition without our cultural industry.”
This year’s Best of Festival winner was the production, Mr. Berry, a short documentary that looks at a teacher’s seemingly endless career of 65 years and counting, students keep coming and Mr. Berry keeps teaching. Mr. Berry also won the Golden Sheaf for Documentary History & Biography.
The Ruth Shaw Award (Best of Saskatchewan) was presented to the documentary social/political Humboldt:The New Season is a documentary that follows survivors of the tragic 2018 Humboldt Broncos crash. Two survivors return to play for the 2018-2019 Broncos, while others continue their recovery while still trying to pursue their love for hockey in new avenues.
