Organizers of the Mark’s Parkland Trades Open golf tournament presented a $25,000 cheque to Parkland College Wednesday in support of the Trades and Technology Centre in Yorkton. The money was raised at the second annual Parkland Trades Open in August.

This donation completes a $50,000 commitment made by a group of local business owners and tradespeople. The committee created the golf outing to give to the Trades and Technology Centre on behalf of the trades. More than 30 teams registered for this summer’s event, building on the success of the first tournament in 2014.

The organizing committee included Justin Yawney, Evan Johnson and Chris Wyatt of Yorkton Plumbing & Heating, Marty Sveinbjornson from SveinCo Developments, Dustin Nehring and Wade Barton of NL Construction, and Brian Hilderman, Colin Hrywkiw and Jason Hrywkiw from R H Electric.

Mark’s in Yorkton returned to serve as the naming sponsor this year, contributing greatly to the success of the event.

The Trades and Technology Centre opened its doors last month. Students are currently taking classes in Power Engineering, Welding, Agricultural Machinery Technician, Heavy Equipment/Truck and Transport Technician, and Multi-Mechanical Trades.
