August 24 won’t be remembered as a warm, sunny day but it will certainly go down in the books as a day the community came together in the cold and rain to support a worthy cause. It was the day the Yorkton District Council of REALTORS (YDCR) Annual Charity Golf Tournament was held at Deer Park Golf Course. 65 golfers gathered to raise $12,500 to support The Soup Haven. It was a day that generosity prevailed, having all cash prizes awarded that day donated back to the event’s charity. It was a day businesses and individual supporters showed their care and concern for the community.
The YDCR is so thankful for the local support and so humbled by the outpouring of backing by the local businesses and fellow golfers. To date, the YDCR Annual Charity Golf Tournament has donated more than $70,000 to charitable organizations in the community and are already looking forward to next year’s event.
The Soup Haven is a non-profit organization run by volunteers providing lunches daily to over 200 of Yorkton’s children in local schools as well as providing food to two of the schools for their hot lunch programs.
Once a month The Soup Haven also coordinates a community dinner.
