Canada Day celebrations attracted residents of Yorkton and surrounding areas to the Western Development Museum over the weekend for a full afternoon of activities for all ages.
The event encouraged patriotism with a "Coolest Canadian Hat Contest" along with a colouring contest. There were hay rides, novelty booths, face painting and horse drawn rides. Kids were able to participate in the Canadian themed treasure hunt while the adults enjoyed a new version of "Great Canadian GPS Quest." Vintage vehicle were displayed by the Yorkton Antique Auto Association.
Artwork from local high school students was on display as well as handcrafted pieces by Sonya Pawliw. The museum galleries were also open for viewing as well as a barbeque and concession ran by the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and M&M Meat Shops. Those in attendance also received complimentary flags, pins and cake to celebrate Canada's 144th birthday on behalf of the Yorkton Canada Day Committee.
In recognition of the efforts by the Canadian Red Cross after last years July 1 flood, a "Coins for Canada Day" collection took place with proceeds going towards the Yorkton Flood Relief Campaign by the Red Cross.
