The Good Spirit School Division has hired a new director of education.

Rhae-Ann Holoien will replace outgoing director Dwayne Reeve effective August 1, 2015.

After Reeve announced his retirement in November, the board of education undertook an executive search to find a replacement.

Lois Smandych, board chair was very pleased with the process.

“Our extensive executive search resulted in several excellent candidates and the board chose Rhae-Ann for her vision for a strong school division,” Smandych said. “She very much encapsulates our dedicated belief and motto that “Students Come First” in all we do, not only today, but aspire to do in the future.”

Holoien holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix.

Holoien started her education career as a teacher in Melville (Davison School), Nipawin, Regina Public, Humboldt and Melfort. She rose to the position of principal in Middle Lake and LeRoy, Saskatchewan before switching over to division level administration in the Horizon and Prairie Valley School Divisions.

She is currently a superintendent of education with the South East Cornerstone Public School Division in Weyburn where her primary responsibilities include overseeing the division’s First Nation and Metis Education Action, technology (including distance learning), curriculum and programming, student assessment, student services and learning supports, as well as, early learning and literacy.

“Mrs. Holoien brings an abundance of experience in the education sector to our division,” Smandych said.

Holoien and her husband, Leny, currently reside in Emerald Park with their two children, daughter Jae-Ann,15, and son Leyton,13.

“I am thoroughly excited to join the Good Spirit School Division team and am sincerely looking forward to meeting staff and students this fall,” Holoien said.
