The Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation (SSTC) is proud to announce its list of 'Community Demonstration Grants.' The SSTC grant program awards eligible communities and organizations up to $5,500 towards the purchase and installation of Saskatchewan Manufactured recycled rubber products. Eligible projects fall under two categories:
Granular products such as mulch for landscaping or crumb for playgrounds;
Manufactured products such as patio tiles, sidewalks, athletic surfacing, roof shingles and other projects.
This year's recipients of the grant include:
Foam Lake Daycare for a yard renovation
Meacham Recreation Board for a playground upgrade
William Derby school in Strasbourg for their sports field long-jump track
The Town of Cabri for playground paving
Leoville Arena Recreation Board for rubber matting in the arena
The Town of Wilkie for pool decking
These grants total almost $30,000. Funds are raised through the SSTC's Tire Recycling Fee, collected on the purchase of each new tire in Saskatchewan.
The SSTC program collects and handles over 750,000 whole tires annually. This translates to over 45 million pounds of scrap tire material that is recycled in Saskatchewan by two local recycling companies. Both companies are Saskatchewan owned and operated and have been handling the SSTC's tire waste since the inception of the program.
