Parkland College’s Trades and Technology Centre (TTC) in Yorkton, in its second full year of operation, is a daily hub of activity. Students in a variety of programs attend classes and put their skills to work first thing in the morning until late in the evening.
The facility is also home to frequent safety and corporate training seminars. And this spring, another program will be added to the busy facility, offering local learners a new opportunity to forge a hands-on career.
The TTC offers a number of full-time Saskatchewan Polytechnic certificate programs, including Agricultural Equipment Technician, Heavy Equipment/Truck and Transport Technician, Multi-Mechanical Trades, Power Engineering, and Welding. Starting this April, the Electrical Applied Certificate program arrives with classes running through the summer.
“A key advantage of coming to the TTC is the small average class size,” said Parkland College President Dwayne Reeve. “Students get more one-on-one instruction time and learn from their peers – advantages which can help graduates in the competitive job market.”
In addition to a large multi-use trades shop, welding/fabrication shop, and dedicated power engineering lab, the facility boasts a state-of-the-art science lab. It’s used by Power Engineering students, as well as university students taking biology and chemistry. It’s also home to other courses related to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
Applications are being accepted for upcoming programs at the TTC. The Electrician program begins in April, while the rest of the offerings start in late August and September.
