Dean Shyiak, owner of McDonalds Restaurants in Yorkton, announced that on Tuesday, April 24, both Yorkton McDonalds restaurants will donate $1 per sale in support of The Health Foundations' annual Airwaves for Health Radiothon. The items that qualify are:
Egg McMuffin, Sausage Egg McMuffin, or Bacon Egg McMuffin
Quarter pounder with cheese
Any size smoothie
"We are regular supporters of the work of The Health Foundation, and this year in particular we wanted to do something special to raise awareness for the radiothon and hopefully make a bigger donation. The radiothon this year is raising funds for diagnostic imaging equipment in the hospital, and we know that is really needed", said Dean Shyiak.
We are donating $1 from each sale of the above items on Tuesday April 24, and we chose the 24th because that is the second day of the radiothon. On the first day of the radiothon we will explain to listeners that they should go to McDonalds the next day and help us make a big donation to The Health Foundation.
We chose to do this because we wanted to involve our customers, and help The Health Foundation raise awareness for the radiothon. We also hope other businesses will take note of what we are doing and think of ways they might also make a contribution," continued Mr. Shyiak.
"We are doing this because we think the work of The Health Foundation is important, and we want to help. We want to make a donation, but we also want to make that donation in a way that creates awareness of the need for those of us in the community to support this program and help expand and improve the healthcare that's available here."
"We think this is a tremendous idea," said Ross Fisher. "McDonalds has always been a very strong supporter of the work of The Health Foundation, and we appreciate this idea. Hopefully a lot of people have breakfast or lunch at McDonalds on Tuesday April 24th, and help them donate a lot of money. I like this program because it will raise awareness and hopefully help people to think about making a donation of their own.
"Our Airwaves for Health Radiothon will be here later this month, and we really need it to be successful. That's when we will be launching our fundraising campaign for this year. The radiothon is held on both of our local radio stations, and goes for 36 hours.
"The radiothon will feature interviews with doctors and nurses explaining how the new equipment will benefit people of our region. As well, many of our business donors come down to the mall where we hold the radiothon and do an interview on both stations and talk about why they support improving our local healthcare," continued Mr. Fisher
I know Mr. Shyiak and McDonalds will be there and I hope a lot of other businesses will be too.
