Health Region upgrades infrastructure

Sunrise Health Region is using a $2.4 million capital funding investment by the province to make health facilities safer and more comfortable for patients and the people who serve them.

Sunrise Health Region is using a $2.4 million capital funding investment by the province to make health facilities safer and more comfortable for patients and the people who serve them. The funding for facility maintenance and equipment upgrades is part of a $133.1 million funding commitment announced by Health Minister Don McMorris in February, 2011.

"We are grateful that funding has been provided by the Ministry of Health for Sunrise Health Region to continue our commitment to patient safety and quality health care services for our patients, long-term care residents and clients," said Lorelei Stusek, Vice President of Corporate Services for the Sunrise Health Region. "This funding allows the region to complete our priority projects and equipment replacements and upgrades to support health services in communities throughout the health region."

The funding includes $751,000 for safety and medical equipment, $170,000 for the purchase of a radiography unit for diagnostic imaging and $1.5 million for building upgrades including nurse call systems, fire alarm systems and boiler replacements.

"Infrastructure improvements are needed to keep pace with technological change and to repair and upgrade health facilities in Sunrise Health Region," said McMorris. "We are following through on our government's commitment to protect and improve health infrastructure."

This new funding is in addition to the more than $8 million invested by the province in Sunrise Health Region infrastructure over the past two years.

An extensive list of renovations and equipment upgrades was completed with provincial funds aimed at supporting Sunrise Health Region services and prolonging the life and function of health care facilities.

Sunrise Health Region will continue to work on priority capital infrastructure and equipment improvements throughout the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
