Health services

Sunrise Health Region offers a variety of services to residents in the region requiring medical care.

Sunrise Health Region offers a variety of services to residents in the region requiring medical care. Emergency rooms are located in six communities throughout the region to treat injuries or illness that may pose an immediate threat to life or limb, such as severe chest or abdominal pain, breathing difficulties, or accident-related injuries.

Non-urgent conditions such as sore throats, minor injuries, cold symptoms or prescriptions can be appropriately treated at a physician or nurse practitioner clinic or with the assistance of a pharmacist. If a person is uncertain whether they need immediate medical attention, free advice from a registered nurse is available 24 hours a day by calling Healthline at 811.

City Medical Centre in Yorkton also provides walk-in clinic services to individuals in the region and is increasing its hours to improve access for patients and reduce wait times. Effective November 4, 2013 the new hours at the Walk-in Clinic will be Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and closed on public Holidays.

Aggressive physician recruitment has resulted in a number of new physicians arriving to practice in the region. Residents who currently do not have a family physician are encouraged to check the website at www.sunrisehealthregion.sk.ca
