Yorkton’s high schools both have increased security during the last month of classes.
The security measures have been implemented due to a “low level threat” which was received at the Yorkton Regional High School last week explains Quintin Robertson, Director of Education for the Good Spirit School Division.
“We consulted with the RCMP and the Canadian Centre for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response and both of those organizations indicated that it would be appropriate to put precautionary presence.”
That response includes a greater police presence at YRHS and more restricted access to the school. Sacred Heart High School in the Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division also implemented similar security measures in response to the threat.
The investigation is ongoing, and they expect that the security measures will last until the end of the school year.
“This is a precautionary measure to deal with a very low level threat, and other than that it is business as usual.”
