SaskEnergy and its Network of plumbing and heating contractors have teamed up on a pilot project to promote the importance of maintaining your furnace. The Tune-Up Assistance Program (TAP) for low income homeowners provides a hands-on examination of the home heating equipment to make sure it is ready for the onset of cooler temperatures.

Today, in Yorkton, qualified homeowner applicants will receive a SaskEnergy Network Home Heating Tune-Up at no charge. Included in TAP is also the installation of a multi-gas detector that detects both natural gas and carbon monoxide as an added safety measure. TAP serves as a reminder to all Saskatchewan homeowners about the importance of furnace maintenance and cleaning or replacing furnace filters every one to two months. Dirty filters will reduce airflow and force the furnace to run longer, possibly leading to costly repairs, poor indoor air quality, or no service when it is most needed.

Leslie Gosselin, Manager, Advertising & Community Relations with SaskEnergy, said “Annual maintenance of your home heating system is cost-effective compared to purchasing a new furnace or boiler. Regular maintenance can help ensure your system is operating safely and at peak efficiency, improving overall home comfort and reduce the risk of emergency repairs.”

Other participating communities in this provincial program are Wadena,Watrous, North Battleford, Kindersley, Swift Current, Weyburn, Estevan, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon. Communities were selected based on the location of SaskEnergy Network Members who provide the SaskEnergy Network Home Heating Tune-Up service and to ensure resources were available to meet potential demand in this pilot year.

Homeowners with a combined annual income of no more than $52,000 were targeted while renters were not eligible. More information about TAP is available on saskenergy.com.
