A semi and a pickup truck collided in a fatal accident south of Yorkton last Friday.
A northbound semi crashed head-on with a southbound pickup truck on Highway 9 south of Yorkton on Apr. 27. The vehicles spun into the east and west ditches. The semi-tractor and trailer caught fire, although no hazardous materials were involved.
Around noon, the Yorkton RCMP Rural Detachment responded to reports of the accident. They established a road block to restrict traffic to the crash site. Ambulances and fire trucks were also on the scene.
The male driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.
EMS transported the driver of the semi to a Yorkton hospital with minor injuries. Their name has not been released.
The section of the highway was reopened later that evening. The investigation is ongoing.
