Construction has recently resumed on exit and entrance ramps at the junction of Highways 1 and 48 at White City just east of Regina.
"Once open to traffic, this road work will assist in improving safety by making it easier for motorists to get on and off the busy Trans-Canada Highway," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said.
This $2.5-million project started again on Wednesday, July 18, and involves building an exit ramp (eastbound on Highway 1 to southbound on Highway 48) and an entrance ramp (northbound on Highway 48 to eastbound on Highway 1). The project is targeted to be open to traffic by mid September. The project originally began in the fall of 2011 but shut down for the winter season.
As this project nears completion, the contractor is expected to begin additional construction at the junction of Highways 1 and 46 at Balgonie to build a $1.4-million exit ramp (westbound on Highway 1 to northbound on Highway 46). This work is to take place as early as September. Motorists may see work on both of these projects happening simultaneously, depending on weather and contractor progress.
"As always, motorists need to remember to slow to 60 km/hr when passing workers and equipment on any highway in Saskatchewan - especially during our busy summer construction season," McMorris said.
New activity expected to be underway includes patching on Highway 2 near St. Louis, paving on Highway 5 near Quill Lake, more twinning construction on Highway 11 from north of Rosthern to south of Duck Lake, patching on Highway 11 near Kenaston, improvements to the Gerald Access Road off Highway 22 and patching on the Waldheim Access Road near Highway 312.
