The 1939 Massey Harris tractor is described as follows: Record Low Fuel Consumption: Beautiful in design and exceptionally practical in utility, the Massey-Harris 101 is a completely modern tractor, offering more value in power and economy. Powered with a six-cylinder, heavy duty Chrysler industrial motor, the Massey-Harris 101 has battery ignition and self-starter. This tractor develops full two-plow drawbar power — in many conditions it will handle three bottoms with ease — and the exclusive Massey-Harris Twin Power gives three-plow power for belt work. Light, speedy, quiet and easily handled this tractor is setting new standards in performance and new records in economy. (Family Herald and Weekly Star Feb. 22, 1939.) At the time this tractor was introduced, it was the last year of the Great Depression. In Yorkton, the Massey-Harris Company located on the corner of Broadway Street West and Myrtle Avenue since 1912 had enjoyed prosperity throughout the years until it shut down in 1931 at the start of the Depression. It re-opened for business when it amalgamated with the Ferguson Corporation of England in 1954. This building at #41 Broadway Street West still stands today.
