Yorkton in June 1911. The photo, looking west and south taken in the yard of the first Victoria School built in 1899 between 5th and 6th Avenue North. In the background, we see the Methodist Church building (now St. Paul Lutheran Church) on the corner of Smith Street and 4th Avenue North. The second Victoria School was built in 1929 across the street on 4th Avenue North. The festivities: Celebrating the coronation of King George 5th and Queen Mary at Westminster Abbey in London, England. The two-storey brick building in the background is the Post Office on Third Avenue North, which was actually a Dominion Government building also housing a Customs office, etc. Yorkton was then 19 years old and comprised in great majority of people of British origins, from Ontario, England and Scotland who were very loyal to the Crown.
