The Nativity scene dates back to 1960 and the artist was Theodore Onufrychuk, then new City of Yorkton Horticulturalist. He was asked by Mayor W. Fichtner, City Clerk Tiller, and City Engineer Sveinbjornson, to submit three projects with a Christmas theme, and this one was chosen to decorate the little park on Broadway Street not far from the CPR station. Mr. Onufrychuk was born in Ukraine. He came to Canada about 1950, and accepted to work as a horticulturalist for the Parks Board in Winnipeg.
