The advertising of grain merchants James and Charles Peaker shows the growth of their business enterprise in the very early years of Yorkton. Brothers James and Charles Peaker came to Canada from Yorkshire, England in 1888 settling on homesteads south east of Yorkton. They had farming experience in England and set about proving their homesteads and stock raising on a large scale. They tired of the back-breaking work of loading grain in box cars, and decided to build their own elevator in Rokeby. They shipped grain for other farmers as well. In 1907, the brothers founded Peaker Bros. Grain Company. The ad shows they operated an impressive total of 16 elevators in 1918 in the area surrounding Yorkton.
